Thoughts on music practise…

  • Tips for playing piano

    Piano

Scales! Make them fun, once you learnt a few, try making up your own scales. Scales are great for exploring technique. Balance. for example, when one hand should be softer than the other.

  • Guitar

With any instrument, technique, i.e. the shape of your arms and hands when you play is really important. For several reasons: your health, bad technique can lead to injury, good technique will nurture your ability to play more demanding music.

  • Drums

    Drums

As with learning any instrument, learning by ear is an essential skill - however, with the absence of pitch this is a slightly different skill. Memorising the layout of a drum kit and playing a virtual kit i.e. with a desk, chair and pencil whilst listening to music will really help when learning by ear.
